Use webanalytics for better content marketing

How do you know what data is important to your content marketing? How you use it for your content marketing success? Web analytic tools helps you optimizing your website so you can do informed decisions.

I found an interesting article which show how we can take advantages of web analytics. I would like to share the top points from the article.

Step 1: Don’t let your visitors leave your site
Show your visitors the way. If there is interesting information but the visitors don’t have a clear way to go, they leave your site. This increases the bounce rates. Could you show more related content and what would the visitor want to do or read?

Step 2: Make it a habit
Check your website every day or order a daily report. You will get information which of your pages shows up most.

Step 3: Get to the bottom
People focus on the top pages easily even if the bottom would need more attention. It is good to clean up the site regularly and eliminate unnecessary information from view. If your site is too full of everything it could be hard to find the necessary information. Eliminating the unnecessary information makes the rest of your data more meaningful.

Step 4: Translate data into English
Make the essential information in a summary in English.

Step 5: Look at the intent
Understand how the metrics translate to visitor intention.

Step 6: Set up goals
Track visitors’ actions and engagement to know what works and what doesn’t.

Step 7: Set up conversion events
Traffic on your site is meaningless unless it lead to revenue.

Step 8: Learn from your referrals
Check the list of websites which have sent you most visitors. Use information to create the types of stuff the visitors would be interested in. This will increase traffic on your webpage.

Step 9: Bet on success
Figure out what really works and create more of it. “Double your winners.”

Step 10: Take a long-range view
Daily checking is important, but it’s easy way to make knee-jerk decisions and hard way to spot trends. Monthly checking helps us to see what is really working and which are trends at the time.

Step 11: Do something

The most important thing is to understand what data is important and what really matters. “The key is to collect and analyze data that will help increase your conversions and add revenue to your bottom line.”

  3. Petra, thank you for a great blog. I enjoyed reading through it and there are many great advices for everyone. I like the focus on the making a habit, and simply "doing". Often in life if we decide to become good at something we need to simply start focusing our mind and action towards it. We can become good in anything we set our focus into, I believe. And in this case it suits wonderfully to the context.

Also, the other points are very relevant. Thanks for widening my thinking with this blogpost :)
